Limbs & Things Cervical Dilatation Set for the PROMPT Flex Birthing Simulator
Limbs & Things Cervical Dilatation Set for the PROMPT Flex Birthing Simulator
The cervical dilatation set from Limbs & Things extends your PROMPT Flex birthing simulator to cover the training of vaginal examination during the first stage of labour. Cervical dilatation, effacement, consistency, cervical position and station are reproduced as a palpable finding – precisely the assessment that is hardest to teach and hardest to verify on the labour ward.
The set is fully combinable: you pair different cervices with different presenting parts, caputs and amniotic membranes and so produce a new finding for every learner. In the active first stage of labour, the cervical dilatation on the dynamic rig can be adjusted continuously from 4 to 10 cm – the finding therefore changes during the examination.
Who is the cervical dilatation set for?
- Midwifery education and midwifery science – introduction to vaginal examination
- Labour ward teams who want to standardise their assessment of findings across the team
- Medical specialty training in gynaecology and obstetrics
- Examinations and OSCE stations with reproducible, objectively comparable findings
- Facilities that already own a PROMPT Flex and want to extend it in a targeted way
What can the cervical dilatation set help you train?
- Assessing cervical dilatation from 0 to 10 cm
- Assessing effacement of the cervix
- Judging cervical consistency – soft, medium and firm
- Recognising the cervical position
- Determining the station from –3 to +3
- Deriving the complete Bishop score from the individual findings
- Palpating the fontanelles and determining the presentation
- Distinguishing the presenting parts – flexed and deflexed head, face presentation, brow presentation and breech
- Recognising a caput in three degrees of severity and its effect on the palpability of the fontanelles
- Palpating moulding via the mobile parietal bones of the difficult labour heads
- Performing rupture of membranes on fillable amniotic membranes
- Following the progress of labour from the latent phase into the active first stage of labour
What does the cervical dilatation set bring to your everyday training?
- Two rigs for two phases: the static rig reproduces the latent phase from 0 to 4 cm using interchangeable cervices, the dynamic rig the active first stage of labour from 4 to 10 cm.
- A changing finding: on the dynamic rig you turn a dial to make the cervical dilatation narrower or wider. Your learners therefore experience the progress of labour rather than a snapshot.
- Objectively comparable examinations: because every finding is set up in an exactly reproducible way, in the examination you assess skill and not chance.
- Wide scope for combination: seven cervices for the latent phase, one dynamic cervix, five presenting parts, two heads with mobile parietal bones and six caputs add up to a very high number of different findings.
- Effacement is taught alongside from the very start: each latent-phase cervix combines a cervical dilatation with a defined degree of effacement – so both are assessed together, just as in practice.
- Aligned with standards: the learning objectives follow the ACGME milestones for gynaecology and obstetrics and the recommendations of the NHS.
- Latex-free, washable with soap and water and available in light and dark skin tones.

Frequently asked questions about the cervical dilatation set
Which models does the cervical dilatation set fit?
The cervical dilatation set is designed for the PROMPT Flex Standard and the PROMPT Flex Advanced birthing simulators. Order the variant that matches the skin tone of your simulator.
How do the static and dynamic rigs differ?
The static rig reproduces the latent phase: you fit one of the seven cervices with a firmly defined cervical dilatation and effacement. The dynamic rig covers the active first stage of labour – here a single cervix dilates continuously from 4 to 10 cm using the dial.
Which findings can be set up?
Cervical dilatation from 0 to 10 cm, effacement, consistency in the grades soft, medium and firm, cervical position, station from –3 to +3, the position of the presenting part, caput in three sizes as well as moulding via the mobile parietal bones. From these, the complete Bishop score can be derived.
Can I also practise rupture of membranes with the set?
Yes. The set contains 25 amniotic membrane films, which can be filled with fluid and opened during the examination. The films can be reordered individually as consumables (item no. 80146).
Which parts are consumables and how is the set cleaned?
The consumables are the amniotic membrane films (80146); all the other components of the set can likewise be reordered individually – you will find the item numbers in the What's included section. The components are latex-free and washable with soap and water.
