Frequently asked questions about Ken and Rika

How do Ken and Rika differ?

In sex alone. Ken is the male model and Rika the female one; design, dimensions, material and functions are identical. For gender-specific perineal care and nappy changing, combining both variants is worthwhile.

Can the model really be bathed?

Yes. The body is manufactured from a single piece, seamless and fully waterproof – that is exactly what the model is built for. The earlobes are also made soft so that closing the ear canals during bathing can be practised.

Can feeding also be practised with Ken and Rika?

Yes. The mouth accepts both breastfeeding and bottle teats. Latching, bottle feeding and advising parents can therefore all be demonstrated on the same model.

Why does the weight of the model matter?

At around 3.6 kg and 50 cm in length, the model is in the range of a term newborn. Holds, supporting the head and repositioning therefore feel as they do in practice – secure holding cannot be trained convincingly on a model that is too light.

Are Ken and Rika suitable for parent education?

Yes. Lifelike appearance, realistic weight and suitability for bathing make the models a working tool for parenting classes, antenatal preparation and instruction on the postnatal ward.
