Koken Infant Care Manikins in the LM-026 Range

Koken's infant care manikins are newborn models made from special silicone rubber for nursing education. The seamless silicone skin feels like real infant skin, is completely waterproof and does not change even after many baths – which makes the range a working tool for courses in which bathing, nappy changing and measuring happen every day.

The range comprises three variants: LM-026M (male), LM-026MD (male, dark skin tone) and LM-026G (female). All three are anatomically identical. You can therefore equip your skills lab with several models and represent different skin tones and sexes without compromising on the learning objective.

Who are the infant care manikins for?

  • Nursing schools, universities and paediatric nursing
  • Midwifery education as well as postnatal and neonatal wards
  • Parenting classes and the instruction of relatives
  • Institutions that want to make diversity visible in their teaching
  • Courses run at high frequency, in which the model is in the water every day

What can the infant care manikins help you train?

  • Bathing with safe holding of the head, ears, arms and legs
  • Observing, measuring and assessing the whole body
  • Performing simple infant exercises
  • Nappy changing and perineal care
  • Inserting a rectal thermometer
  • Administering an enema – the anal canal is approximately 3 cm deep
  • Umbilical cord care and navel care once the cord has come away
  • Inserting a suction catheter – approximately 5 cm from the nose to the pharynx, approximately 15 cm from the mouth to the stomach
  • Checking for clavicle fracture at the collarbone and the breastbone
  • Palpating the fontanelles, the sagittal and coronal sutures and the spine
  • Offering a teat – the mouth is designed for sucking

What do the infant care manikins bring to your everyday training?

  • Silicone skin with a genuine feel: appearance and grip come close to real infant skin – decisive when learners hold a newborn for the first time.
  • Seamless and waterproof: the skin does not change even with repeated bathing and has no seams through which water can enter.
  • Anatomical landmarks: anterior and posterior fontanelle, sagittal suture and coronal suture, clavicle and sternum as well as the palpable spine – this turns the nursing model into an examination model too.
  • Movable head and flexible ears: holding, supporting and closing the ear canals during bathing can all be practised realistically.
  • Arms and legs freely movable and lockable: you set a position and hold it for the exercise.
  • Detachable umbilical cord: you train care with the cord in place and navel care after it has come away on the same model.
  • Three variants for sex and skin tone – a straightforward way to represent diversity in the skills lab.

Frequently asked questions about the infant care manikins

Which variants are available?

Three: LM-026M (male), LM-026MD (male with dark skin tone) and LM-026G (female). The manufacturer does not currently offer a female variant with a dark skin tone.

May the model be bathed?

Yes. The silicone skin is seamless and completely waterproof and does not change even with repeated bathing – bathing is one of the central learning objectives of this range.

How do the Koken manikins differ from Ken and Rika by Kyoto Kagaku?

The Koken models are made of silicone rubber and offer more anatomical landmarks – cranial sutures, clavicle and sternum as well as the palpable spine – and additionally allow a rectal thermometer, an enema and a suction catheter. Ken and Rika are made of soft resin, are somewhat heavier at around 3.6 kg and accept breastfeeding and bottle teats, which makes it possible to practise feeding. For nursing and diagnostic learning objectives the Koken manikins are the right choice; for bathing, feeding and parent education, Ken and Rika.

Which consumables and replacement parts are required?

The umbilical cord is detachable and available as a replacement part (LM-026A), as is the storage bag (LM-026B). No other consumables are required.

How is the model cleaned?

After bathing, rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly; for routine cleaning a soft cloth with a mild detergent is sufficient. Solvents and oil-based pens should be avoided, as they permanently discolour the silicone surface.
