Limbs & Things PPH Module for the PROMPT Flex Birthing Simulator

The PPH module from Limbs & Things extends your PROMPT Flex birthing simulator to cover the training of postpartum haemorrhage. It reproduces the atonic uterus as well as the contracted uterus: the uterus is soft at first and only contracts once the fundal massage is performed effectively. Your learners therefore feel for themselves whether they have worked correctly – instead of being told.

Added to this is a simulated blood loss of up to 2.5 litres, which you control by hand during the scenario. This lets you train not just the individual manoeuvre but the entire sequence: recognising, assessing, acting and, while doing so, communicating with the patient and within the team.

Who is the PPH module for?

  • Obstetric departments running regular emergency training
  • Midwifery education and continuing midwifery education
  • Interprofessional team training with midwives, obstetricians, anaesthetists and nurses
  • Emergency medical services and out-of-hospital obstetrics – postpartum bleeding outside the hospital
  • Facilities that already own a PROMPT Flex and want to cover conservative PPH management

What can the PPH module help you train?

  • Recognising and managing postpartum haemorrhage
  • Performing fundal massage on the atonic uterus with haptic feedback
  • Practising bimanual compression against the inner uterine wall
  • Inserting, inflating and managing a haemostatic balloon catheter, for example a Bakri balloon
  • Estimating a blood loss of up to 2.5 litres
  • Giving intramuscular injections, for example to administer uterotonics
  • Intensifying or easing the situation in a live scenario via the adjustable blood flow
  • Practising communication with the patient – including alongside a simulated participant
  • Practising team workflow, role allocation and escalation in the obstetric emergency

What does the PPH module bring to your everyday training?

  • Haptic feedback instead of an announcement: the soft uterus only contracts once the massage is effective. The feedback comes from the model and not from the instructor – that changes how seriously learners take the manoeuvre.
  • Two separate hand pumps: one controls the uterine contraction, the other the blood flow. This puts you in complete control of how the scenario unfolds.
  • Quick to set up: the module is ready for use in moments, so as little course time as possible is lost to setting up.
  • A match for your existing simulator: compatible with the PROMPT Flex Standard (80100 and 80200) and the PROMPT Flex Advanced (80106 and 80206) in both light and dark skin tones.
  • Skin-friendly simulated blood: the concentrate contains an EU-approved preservative and, once diluted, is also suitable for prolonged skin contact. Used properly, it leaves no stains; gloves are recommended so that the pigments do not rub off.
  • Aligned with guidelines: the learning objectives follow the recommendations of the RCOG, RANZCOG and AAFP as well as national emergency medical services guidelines.
  • Latex-free.

Frequently asked questions about the PPH module

How does the PPH module differ from the Postpartum Haemorrhage Kit?

The PPH module (item no. LT80101) covers conservative management: fundal massage, bimanual compression, balloon catheter, uterotonics and blood loss estimation. The Postpartum Haemorrhage Kit (item no. LT80112) contains this module plus the compression suture uterus, which also allows surgical management to be trained – compression sutures using the B-Lynch, Hayman and Pereira techniques as well as uterine artery ligation. If you train conservative management only, the module is sufficient; if surgical management is to be practised as well, the kit is the right choice.

Which models does the PPH module fit?

The PPH module is designed for the PROMPT Flex Standard and the PROMPT Flex Advanced birthing simulators, each in light and in dark skin tones.

How much simulated blood loss is possible?

Up to 2.5 litres. The blood flow is controlled by a hand pump and can be adjusted continuously during the scenario – from slow oozing to massive haemorrhage.

Can I use a Bakri balloon with the PPH module?

Yes. The module is designed for inserting and inflating a haemostatic balloon catheter, so your team can practise the complete sequence from preparation to checking the position.

Does the simulated blood stain?

Used properly, it leaves no stains. The manufacturer recommends gloves so that the colour pigments do not remain on the skin. The Concentrated Venous Blood is included as a 2.5-litre starter pack (item no. 00020); for ongoing use you reorder the refill (item no. 00021).
